NOFAS Connecticut is a non-profit organization dedicated to the prevention of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) and Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) and to improving the quality of life for those affected. We provide education and training for parents, educators, medical and mental health providers and strive to develop a coordinated system of care in Connecticut.

We are an affiliate of the National Organization on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (NOFAS) and are also certified by the ARC of the United States as trainers of their FASD curriculum.

Our group was founded in 2003 by a group of parents concerned by the lack of information, difficulty in finding qualified and knowledgeable service providers, and lack of coordination of services available for individuals affected by Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders and their families and caregivers.  We discovered that, in Connecticut, there was no system in place to track the number of individuals affected, no best-practice guidelines for medical care or education of individuals, and no support available for caregivers. We are committed to bringing this information and these resources into Connecticut.

Mission Statement

NOFAS Connecticut is dedicated to the prevention of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) and Fetal alcohol Syndrome, as well as intervention and support for individuals affected by FASD and their families.  NOFAS Connecticut recognizes the need for community education regarding prevention, diagnosis, intervention, advocacy, and support.  Our purpose is to develop innovative programs through collaboration with community members as well as existing federal, state, and local agencies in order to develop a statewide system of care.
